How is it going? My name is Richard Tucker and I am a 23 year old Sport and Exercise Science graduate from the University of Cardiff (Wales). I have a burning ambition to become a strength and conditioning coach and I have gained some valuable, hands on experience in both amateur and professional rugby, most notably with Bath Rugby Club working with both their senior and academy squads during the 2007/8 season.
I also have a keen and passionate interest in travelling the world and experiencing different lifestyles and cultures. I have strong family connections with New Zealand and especially with Christchurch and I have recently just purchased a property in the city. As a result, I am looking to come out to Christchurch in the next 2/3 months for an extended period of time to try and gain some work experience within the field of strength and conditioning. Knowing how serious and passionate Kiwis are about their rugby, I would sincerely love to sample a taste of working with a highly successful Rugby team such as Canterbury and working alongside highly successful coaches.
The purpose of my email to you is to ask the question of whether Canterbury Rugby currently have in place any kind of internship programme within the S&C department? And if so, what is the criteria in which you select applications? If you currently do not have a programme in place would Canterbury Rugby be prepared to accept students for work experience placements?
If you are unable to answer my questions would you please, if possible, place me in contact with someone who you think might be able to do so or pass on the contact details of anyone you might think would be of assistance to someone in my position.
Thank you very much for your time and I look forward to hearing from you in the near future.
p.s. If you would like me to pass on my resume then please let me know and if you have another email address you would prefer me to contact you on then please let me know. Thanks
