Hi guys,
Over the last 5 months I have been getting very bad knee pain which has gotten progressively worse. I am now at the stage where I have a limited range of motion (I can’t make it down to a parallel squat and going down on my honkers is very very painful) and I find running causes a lot of pain towards the end of a session and for a day or 2 after (i can only run at 90%).
I had an MRI scan and my cartilage and ligaments seem to be ok but the gerneral knee area is inflamed. My doctor suggested a cortisone injection but I’m afraid that after a few weeks it will come back worse.Any thoughts or suggestions on what the pain might be caused by or what to do? Consider I took 6 weeks rest which showed no improvement.
Cheers, Dunne

I would suggest that you get a physiotherapist/athletic trainer to palpate the glute medius. Often times it has been found that this area is very tender and the muscle is almost in spasm.
The glute medius muscle is responsible for a large amount of control at the knee. If this is not working to its full potential it only leads to problems.
The ankle joint might also have limited range of motion (loss of dorsiflexion) which might be causing the problem.
You have to think of it in terms of “pain site vs pain source”.
Personally I would try all avenues prior to injecting.
Thanks,
