Hi to all GS Members. This is my first post after lurking for a while now, so just wanted to say thank you to all contributors for continuing to build a fantastic networking and learning resource for us all.

I am interested to hear how you are managing the programming intricacies of player loading over the course of a tour (domestic or overseas). Particularly, how you are managing the short/medium term needs of travel recovery, skill/tactical loading and the big picture needs of the annual program with respect to overall athletic development.

Working in a sport that has virtually no traditional pre-season period (ath the top level), and a very heavy playing and touring schedule, I am interested in the learning opportunity from across a variety of touring sports, particularly you guys invloved in Super 14 and Heineken Cup schedules.

    Look forward to the discussion,
    ADK

Thanks for your support of the site and for contributing your question, we are fortunate this year to be able to fly into South Africa a day earlier than usual as we are coming off a bye week, so we will have an extra day of recovery leading into our first game, we pull right back on the physical the first week we are there, lifting no more than around 60%, this will build over the next 2 weeks of this tour (we have 3 games in SA this season, we try and stick to our regular routines as much as possible, but have shorter sessions, so in effect controlling our volume and trying to maintain good intensity in our field sessions, ashley
