Maintanace of fitness durning the season

    Hi all,

    I am the conditioning coach of Paarl Boys’ High in South-Africa. After 14 weeks of off season training, we are looking forward to a new season starting middle March. For the past 4 weeks I have been giving special attention to strength endurance training in the form of Strongman related and sled tranining on the field, combined with repeated sprint/tackle bag drills.

    My question to you guys: How much time, in your opinion, should be spent during the competition phase of the season to maintain running fitness levels, and what type of training would you prefer?

    My thoughts are 25-30min hard repeat sprint and restisted sprint once a week if a game is to be played on the Saturday.

    Any thoughts?
