Interview With – Brynley Abad Queensland Reds Super Rugby

Posted on by

Name: Brynley Abad

Profession: Athletic Performance Coach

Team: Queensland Reds

Greatest achievements as a trainer: Out Benched the half back in our team

Years in the Industry: 10 years

What strength coach or trainer has had the most impact on you and why? Damian Marsh has had the most impact on my career. He has always brought me back to the grass roots of strength and conditioning and kept me away from circus tricks.

What are the positives of being a Strength and Conditioning Coach / Trainer?

Enhancing player’s athletic performance is a passion which I enjoy very much. Assisting players reaching their athletic potential is a challenge in every team sport. Every player is unique and consequently has different physical attributes and needs. Meeting these needs can make the difference between a successful and unsuccessful program.

What are the negatives? There are none of course

What advice would you have for those wishing to become a part of the industry?

Become actively involved with your own athletes and clubs as soon as you can. Most work experience students coming through the reds have not applied their knowledge in a practical environment which makes them unemployable.

What is your favourite exercise? It depends on what you are trying to achieve? If you want a bigger bench then bench!

Favourite piece of equipment you have in your gym? As above.

If you could change one thing what would it be? Genetic potential.
